What's the Word on Check Ca?
It's been a fun and busy past few months on the show. We've had some wonderful guests and more to come!
Last week we had a very special visit from Dirty Catfish Brass Band. Check out their show at Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club (234 Main St in Winnipeg) for the Southern Social Club on the first Friday of the month. Each month they bring you DCBB's New Orleans flavoured grooves , a select menu of Southern American dishes and a special music guest. There's two shows and folks can get tickets at the door or through the DCBB website: www.dirtycatfishbrassband.com . This month, CASATI will appear at the late show. Coming up this week is Mr. Quincy Davis, professor and jazz drumset instructor at the University of Manitoba in the Jazz Studies program. Mr. We're very excited to host this very special guest and talented musician, composer, arranger, etc. Tune in to hear about a special project he's working on and some of his music works. Mr. Davis will be on the show this Friday (April 7).

Derrick Gardner on the air waves

Derrick is professor with the University of Manitoba Jazz Studies and is also a talented and internationally renown jazz trumpeter, composer, arranger and instructor. The show featured music selected in recognition for Black History Month (February). Throughout the show, Derrick shared anecdotal and historical tidbits about the music played. Finally, we are pre-empted on February 17th, but will be back on February 24th for a very special episode of Check Ça featuring Black History Month programming. We are excited to host a very special guest: Mr. Derrick Gardner. Mr. Gardner is a professor and jazz trumpet instructor with the University of Manitoba Jazz Studies program; he is also an internationally renown performer, composer, and arranger, with too many amazing credits to list here! Tune in to hear more about this unique artist and to hear his special jazz set on the show.
