Hey Folks, Check Ça will host a special guest for the February 27, 2015. Chuck Copenace, which folks may remember from the early days of Moses Mayes (& the Family Funk Orchestra) is back on the scene with a groovy, funky electronic instrumental project. The live music band will hit the scene with a show at The Garrick on March 5. Chuck will drop by the show the week before to talk about his new project and the upcoming show.

Kay Morris - Reggae gospel music artist , minister and humanitarian

Folks who tuned in for the February 20th edition of Check Ça heard a live interview with a member of  Black History Month Committee and with Kay Morris, Reggae Gospel music artist, minister, and humanitarian. Ms. Morris is an internationally acclaimed performer and is organises in charitable endeavours in Canada and Ghana. We discussed some of the activities planned locally in Winnipeg to celebrate Black History Month this February. Some of the band members from Xanad00ds and Mariachi Ghost are bringing back their Sam Cooke  tribute act in time for St. Valentine's Day. There will be two shows at 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Times Change(d) at 234 Main Street (corner of Main & St. Mary Ave)

Canadian funk outfit  Five Alarm Funk  is rolling into town for 3 shows at The Pyramid (176 Fort St) as part of FREEZER FEST. Sunday's show (February 15) will also feature the Dirty Catfish Brass Band. A fun and funky show this way comes!

Dirty Catfish Brass Band is also hitting up local hotspot The Good Will Social Club on February 20, with Slow Spirit. Definitely a show not to be missed. For jazz fans, The Good Will also hosts a monthly big band music night featuring the big dig! band. Check it out on February 19.

Jay Stoller, Trio Afrique and NAfro Dance

Special Guest for FunDrive 2015 - Jay Stoller

For folks who tuned into the February 6, 2015 edition of Check Ca, we had a special guest for our FunDrive 2015 show. Sincere thanks to Jay Stoller for stopping in and for a chat. Jay is a local African drumming specialist, manager of the Drum Cafe and musical director of Nafro Dance Productions. Jay spoke about his current projects and his upcoming performance with NAfro Dance, PUDYA February 28 and March 1. Jay also a member of Trio Afrique, a local musical ensemble that explores a variety of African guitar music. Grand Analog in da house!

Grand Analog is a hip hop outfit featuring local heroes Odario and Ofield (also formerly of Mood Ruff). The show will also feature another staple of our local hip hop community, Nestor Wynrush, as well as newcomers Super Duty Tough Work. Should be an excellent show and good time!
