Next up, February is Black History Month. If you're in Manitoba, there's a lots of great events celebrating. Winnipeg's local Black History Month has a full month of events; Black Space in Winnipeg also is involved in some very interesting events. And other organisations throughout the province are participating with events that celebrating, educate, and organise. Check it out.

Finally, we are pre-empted on February 17th, but will be back on February 24th for a very special episode of Check Ça  featuring Black History Month programming. We are excited to host a very special guest: Mr. Derrick Gardner. Mr. Gardner is a professor and jazz trumpet instructor with the University of Manitoba Jazz Studies program; he is also an internationally renown performer, composer, and arranger, with too many amazing credits to list here! Tune in to hear more about this unique artist and to hear his special jazz set on the show.

Special Guest on the show tonight - Rasar Amani

Tune in tonight for a special live interview with Rasar Amani, emcee with hip hop outfit The Lique (Las Vegas). Rasar will be travelling to Brandon on February 4 ( to perform with the Big Band in the Brandon University Jazz Studies program. Groovin' on the Prairies

Hey, Hey, y'all! Happy 2017! Hope everyone enjoyed fun and safe festivities to ring in the new year. 2017 is off to a great staff with some nice shows so far and more to come.

Shout out to Joanna Majoko, Super Duty Tough Work, and Dirty Catfish Brass Band who've had some great shows to kick it in 2017. If you haven't checked out these artists yet, we highly recommend their live shows and recordings!

BU Big Band featuring Rasar Amani February 4 @ SUDS (Brandon)
The Big Band at Brandon University under direction of Michael Cain will host Las Vegas emcee Rasar Amani. Check out his work with The Lique ( . This promises to be a great show with a live MC with a big band playing R&B, soul, jazz, and hip hop music. If you're not in Brandon, it's definitely worth the drive!

Tonight is a party on Check Ca! Join us while we host some from very, very special guests helping us out in the radio booth:

Greg MacPherson - local musical artist extraodinaire, and overall cool guy. We'll put him to work in the mix, chat about this works, and delve into whatever else comes our way!

J.D. and the Sunshine band - this awesome local fixture will stop by to talk about their recent CD release, their community work, and well, to bring the party home!

This is going to be a fun show where we invite some great musical friends on our show who may not be the usual Check Ca fare. Our show tonight will introduce them to those who aren't familiar with them yet, but will also be a chance to do some fun radio too! Who knows where this week's adventure will take us... Hey, hey, hey... local hip hop artist Daily (formerly known as The Original Daily) is putting on his annual fundraiser - 5 Shows, 1 Day Part II. Daily will be bringing his vibe around town all day on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 5 different spots starting at 1:00 p.m. until the last show at 10:30. This annual event is fundraiser in support of the Canadian Hearing Society.
